‘The Dark Kingdom’ Disney’s Villainous Theme Park That Never Was!

(PCM) Were you aware that Disney had plans to open a theme park that paid homage to all their famous villains called “The Dark Kingdom”, however the idea was eventually scrapped? We think this is a total bummer because that definitely would have been something we would have loved to check out!

Most people associate Disney parks with with happy and magical, however there is definitely a demographic that prefers the darker side of Disney. Both Disney World in Orlando, FL and Disneyland in Anaheim, CA prominently feature Cinderella’s castle and focus on the heroine princesses stories such as Sleeping Beauty, Little Mermaid, Beauty and The Beast and more.

While both parks provide tons of family-friendly entertainment there were plans in the works for quite some time to create another Disney theme park that was dedicated to our favorite Disney villains, but it was never able to get off the ground.

The “Dark Kingdom” park was planned to open as part of Disney World in Orlando, FL and instead of Cinderella’s castle, it would be Maleficent’s castle that greeted visitors. The park would feature rides and attractions that showcased characters such as Captain Hook, Scar and of course Ursula the Sea Witch. We think this would have been amazing, especially considering everyone’s obsession with anti-hero characters these days.

Even if they didn’t open an entire theme park dedicated to villains Disney was also highly considering opening up another land within Disney World called “The Shadowlands” which would feature similar concepts to “The Dark Kingdom”.

They imagined an ride similar to Dumbo which would be Ursula the Sea Witch’s octopus like tentacles and  another that would be similar to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad that would be called “Villain Mountain” instead. There was also talks about having a “Magic Mirror” type of 3-D show that would be both comedy and horror (but not too scary, it is Disney after all) that would showcase the best Disney villains up close and personal.

The idea for “The Dark Kingdom” and “The Shadowlands” was put on the table back in 2010, but never received enough steam to get off the ground. It’s a pity because we truly think this would have been an excellent idea!

Film Review: Walt Disney’s ‘Beauty And The Beast’ Starring Emma Watson And Dan Stevens

(PCM) We found ourselves pleasantly surprised after attending a recent screening for the upcoming live-action adaptation of the Walt Disney classic “Beauty and the Beast” that overall we thoroughly enjoyed the film. We had a few reservations going in that perhaps giving this story the live-action makeover would take something away for the classic 1991 animated film that won over our hearts, however this was certainly not the case. In fact, the film had more of the opposite effect. Disney’s impeccable use of CGI animation with the new film actually enhanced our viewing experience and we found ourselves looking at this beautiful love story in new and different ways.

For those who may not be aware of the original story, “Beauty and the Beast” is the fantastic journey of Belle, a bright, beautiful and independent young woman who is taken prisoner by a Beast in his castle. Despite her fears, she befriends the castle’s enchanted staff and learns to look beyond the Beast’s hideous exterior and realize the kind heart of the true Prince within. The film stars: Emma Watson as Belle; Dan Stevens as the Beast; Luke Evans as Gaston, the handsome, but shallow villager who woos Belle; Kevin Kline as Maurice, Belle’s father; Josh Gad as LeFou, Gaston’s long-suffering aide-de-camp; Ewan McGregor as Lumière, the candelabra; Stanley Tucci as Maestro Cadenza, the harpsichord; Audra McDonald as Madame de Garderobe, the wardrobe; Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Plumette, the feather duster; Hattie Morahan as the enchantress; and Nathan Mack as Chip, the teacup; with Ian McKellen as Cogsworth, the mantel clock; and Emma Thompson as the teapot, Mrs. Potts.

The all-star cast were able to breathe new life into this very nostalgic tale. Casting the bright and beautiful Emma Watson in the leading role as Belle was the perfect decision as it is quite apparent from the opening musical number of the film “Bonjour” that she was made for this role. Director Bill Condon was able to re-imagine the film in some rather clever ways with some added dialogue quips and some slight modernization by humanizing certain character attributes. This appears to be the new direction that Disney is taking with many of their classic films. What began with the success of the live-action adaptation of the “Jungle Book” and continued on with “Maleficent”, the studio has taken things a step further with “Beauty and the Beast”. We can’t wait to see what they will do with “The Lion King” which has already been revealed to be the studios next live-action adaptation film.

5 Things That Has Us Excited About ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2’

The second “teaser” trailer (I use the word teaser loosely) for “Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2” was released this passed weekend and it’s something to really be excited about! We are so excited that we made a list of 5 key things about the trailer that has us wanting May 5, 2017 to come a whole lot sooner.

Outer Space Dog Fights

At 48 seconds into the trailer, we see Star-Lord piloting a ship while in a space chase with an army of ships going after him. We seen just a little bit of  intergalactic warfare going on in the first “Guardians of the Galaxy” film and seeing this makes us hopeful that there will be a lot more of it this time around.

Baby Groot in Action

No longer is Baby Groot an adorable dancing infant twig, he’s now adorably kicking-ass twig in his youth. There’s even a clip of him playing the hero with an atomic bomb.

First Look at a New Guardian: Mantis

We get our first look at Mantis played by Pom Klementieff. In the comics, Mantis had a couple of different looks. The oldest version of Mantis had flesh colored skin with a pair of antenna, which is the one director James Gunn decided to go with, though Mantis’ attire looks closer to the more recent version of Mantis. In this scene in the trailer, we also get to see a tease of the ability Mantis holds. More on this below…

Star-Lord and Gamora’s Relationship Continues to Heat Up

In the same scene where we see Mantis for the first time, she displays her ability at the expense of Star- Lord’s embarrassment. One of the many abilities Mantis has is the power to feel the feelings of others just by touching them.  Mantis touches the hand of Star-Lord which leads to an hilarious and awkward situation with Star-Lord, Gamora and Drax.

The Galaxy Looks Much, Much Bigger!

From the explosions, the new characters and all the way to the galaxy itself, just about everything in this teaser trailer suggests that “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2” will be much bigger than the first film. Half of the scenes in this teaser trailer takes place in air rather than on ground and it gives it the feel that it’s much larger in scale. This is always a good thing.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 hits theaters May 5, 2017 and stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper, Dave Bautista, Michael Rooker, Pom Klementieff, Sylvester Stallone and Kurt Russell.
