Film Review: Walt Disney’s ‘Beauty And The Beast’ Starring Emma Watson And Dan Stevens

(PCM) We found ourselves pleasantly surprised after attending a recent screening for the upcoming live-action adaptation of the Walt Disney classic “Beauty and the Beast” that overall we thoroughly enjoyed the film. We had a few reservations going in that perhaps giving this story the live-action makeover would take something away for the classic 1991 animated film that won over our hearts, however this was certainly not the case. In fact, the film had more of the opposite effect. Disney’s impeccable use of CGI animation with the new film actually enhanced our viewing experience and we found ourselves looking at this beautiful love story in new and different ways.

For those who may not be aware of the original story, “Beauty and the Beast” is the fantastic journey of Belle, a bright, beautiful and independent young woman who is taken prisoner by a Beast in his castle. Despite her fears, she befriends the castle’s enchanted staff and learns to look beyond the Beast’s hideous exterior and realize the kind heart of the true Prince within. The film stars: Emma Watson as Belle; Dan Stevens as the Beast; Luke Evans as Gaston, the handsome, but shallow villager who woos Belle; Kevin Kline as Maurice, Belle’s father; Josh Gad as LeFou, Gaston’s long-suffering aide-de-camp; Ewan McGregor as Lumière, the candelabra; Stanley Tucci as Maestro Cadenza, the harpsichord; Audra McDonald as Madame de Garderobe, the wardrobe; Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Plumette, the feather duster; Hattie Morahan as the enchantress; and Nathan Mack as Chip, the teacup; with Ian McKellen as Cogsworth, the mantel clock; and Emma Thompson as the teapot, Mrs. Potts.

The all-star cast were able to breathe new life into this very nostalgic tale. Casting the bright and beautiful Emma Watson in the leading role as Belle was the perfect decision as it is quite apparent from the opening musical number of the film “Bonjour” that she was made for this role. Director Bill Condon was able to re-imagine the film in some rather clever ways with some added dialogue quips and some slight modernization by humanizing certain character attributes. This appears to be the new direction that Disney is taking with many of their classic films. What began with the success of the live-action adaptation of the “Jungle Book” and continued on with “Maleficent”, the studio has taken things a step further with “Beauty and the Beast”. We can’t wait to see what they will do with “The Lion King” which has already been revealed to be the studios next live-action adaptation film.

5 Things That Has Us Excited About ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2’

The second “teaser” trailer (I use the word teaser loosely) for “Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2” was released this passed weekend and it’s something to really be excited about! We are so excited that we made a list of 5 key things about the trailer that has us wanting May 5, 2017 to come a whole lot sooner.

Outer Space Dog Fights

At 48 seconds into the trailer, we see Star-Lord piloting a ship while in a space chase with an army of ships going after him. We seen just a little bit of  intergalactic warfare going on in the first “Guardians of the Galaxy” film and seeing this makes us hopeful that there will be a lot more of it this time around.

Baby Groot in Action

No longer is Baby Groot an adorable dancing infant twig, he’s now adorably kicking-ass twig in his youth. There’s even a clip of him playing the hero with an atomic bomb.

First Look at a New Guardian: Mantis

We get our first look at Mantis played by Pom Klementieff. In the comics, Mantis had a couple of different looks. The oldest version of Mantis had flesh colored skin with a pair of antenna, which is the one director James Gunn decided to go with, though Mantis’ attire looks closer to the more recent version of Mantis. In this scene in the trailer, we also get to see a tease of the ability Mantis holds. More on this below…

Star-Lord and Gamora’s Relationship Continues to Heat Up

In the same scene where we see Mantis for the first time, she displays her ability at the expense of Star- Lord’s embarrassment. One of the many abilities Mantis has is the power to feel the feelings of others just by touching them.  Mantis touches the hand of Star-Lord which leads to an hilarious and awkward situation with Star-Lord, Gamora and Drax.

The Galaxy Looks Much, Much Bigger!

From the explosions, the new characters and all the way to the galaxy itself, just about everything in this teaser trailer suggests that “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2” will be much bigger than the first film. Half of the scenes in this teaser trailer takes place in air rather than on ground and it gives it the feel that it’s much larger in scale. This is always a good thing.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 hits theaters May 5, 2017 and stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper, Dave Bautista, Michael Rooker, Pom Klementieff, Sylvester Stallone and Kurt Russell.

Disney Begins Fingerprinting Children Three Years And Older At Theme Parks

(PCM) Raising quite a few security and privacy concerns, Disney has revealed that they will now be require fingerprint scanning of all guests including children ages 3 years and older. Adults visiting the Disney Theme parks have had to deal with finger print scanning for the past several years, but what raises concern is that now their children will be required to do the same, as prior, children ages 3-9 were exempt from having their finger scanned.

Disney says that the new policy has been put in effect as a way to battle fraud, as people had been trying to cheat the system and sneak more people into the park. The finger print scanners have been put in place at all Disney theme parks and water parks and uses biometric technology which Disney is calling their Ticket Tag Service.

For those that are concerned, Disney claims that they do not store any of the finger print information and that once the image of the finger print is scanned it is converted to a number system and the original image is deleted.  Disney is allowing parents who are not comfortable with their young children’s fingers being scanned to use their own finger instead, however doesn’t that seem to defeat the purpose of battle the fraud.

Either way, it is definitely stirring up some buzz and many are not happy with Disney’s newly implemented policy.

Man’s Ode To Steak And Eggs Gets The Disney Treatment And Goes Viral

(PCM) Musician Aaron Ridge has created the latest viral video with his ode to steak and eggs, created using several short Snapchat videos that were sent to friends. Ridge hilariously sings about making his steak and egg breakfast in the same way it might sound if the montage were featured in a Disney animated feature.

Ridge’s friends found the video to be so hilarious that they urged him to compile the clips and create a full video for the song and post it on YouTube. Now, we can all have it stuck in our heads … thanks friends!  You can check it out below, although be warned … it is quite an ear worm!
