(PCM) Seth Rogen, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Anthony Mackie update the cliched duet-on-the-giant-FAO-Schwartz-piano movie scene, busting out Kanye West’s “Blame Game” instead of the classic “Heart and Soul” in the Red Band trailer for The Night Before, a comedy from Jonathan Levine starring the three actors as best friends determined to make the most out of the last night of a decade-long tradition.
The hilarious Red Band trailer introduces Ethan (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), Isaac (Seth Rogen) and Chris (Anthony Mackie), best friends since childhood who have been celebrating Christmas Eve with each other for the past 14 years since the death of Ethan’s parents.
With Chris’s fame ever-increasing and Isaac expecting a baby, the three best friends decide to celebrate Christmas Eve together for the last time, calling an end to their annual tradition and making a commitment to go big for their last hurrah by setting out to find the Nutcracka Ball, described as “the Holy Grail of Christmas parties.”
The night quickly becomes much more than the friends could’ve planned on, especially after Isaac’s mix of shrooms and cocaine doesn’t go as well as planned.
Directed by Jonathan Levine (Warm Bodies, 50/50), The Night Before comes from the screenplay by Levine, Evan Goldberg (This is the End, The Interview), Kyle Hunter (Comedy Central Roast of James Franco, Sausage Party), and Ariel Shaffir (Comedy Central Roast of James Franco, Sausage Party), and stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Seth Rogen, Anthony Mackie, Lizzy Caplan, Jillian Bell, Michael Shannon, and Mindy Kaling.
