(PCM) It was female empowerment in full force when In This Moment brought the Helllpop II tour to the historic Trocadero Theater in Philadelphia, PA. In This Moment front woman Maria Brink took command of the stage and along with the rest of the band put together both a visually stunning and quite theatrical performance.
We have caught performances from In This Moment at several of the large outdoor festivals during the summer, however seeing this performance in an intimate theater like the Trocadero brought out a whole new element to the bands performance. The use of dry ice, lighting effects, costume changes and more made the concert feel more like a stage production and you can tell that a lot of time and energy went into the creation of such a visually stunning performance.
Watching Maria perform is a very emotional experience and as she flawlessly bounces back and forth from belting out soulful melodies to unleashing guttural screams you can literally feel the music as it is being performed. My only complaint is that I would like to see more of the other band members featured in the spotlight, as I feel they were playing mostly in the shadows of the stage.
Pair up the visuals with Maria’s amazing voice and the superb instrumentation from the rest of the band made up of guitarist Chris Howorth, drummer Tom Hane, bassist Travis Johnson and rhythm guitarist Randy Weitzel the show provides the complete package for an entertaining evening of metal.
The band recently released a special edition of their latest album release “Blood” and the highly anticipated package features the band’s breakthrough album ‘Blood’ and a bonus cover of the Nine Inch Nails song “Closer”, as well as the ‘Blood at the Orpheum” live DVD featuring a full 100-minute concert shot in Madison, WI, behind the scenes footage and interviews.
The Hellpop II tour also featured performances from Butcher Babies, Devour The Day and All Hail The Yeti. Butcher Babies had an amazing run on this past summer’s Rockstar Energy Mayhem festival and are certainly a force to be reckoned with in the live environment. They are still currently touring behind their debut album release “Goliath” and along with In This Moment, Five Finger Death Punch, Papa Roach, Three Days Grace and more will rock on on the high seas for the Shiprocked cruise from January 26-30, which sets sail out of Miami, FL, to Great Stirrup Cay, Bahamas.
I, for one, was mesmerized watching both singers, Carla Harvey and Heidi Shepard, commandeer the stage filling the venue with both raw energy and pure adrenaline, setting the stage and gearing up the crowd for In This Moment.
