(PCM) Director Spike Jonze is currently facing a lawsuit brought forth by Sachin Gadh and Jonathan Sender over his Oscar-contender and critically acclaimed film “Her”.
Jonze wrote, produced, and directed “Her” which stars actor Joaquin Phoenix, making him the primary target for the lawsuit. Gadh and Sender claim that Jonze stole the idea for “Her” from a screenplay idea they submitted to Creative Arts Agency several years ago.
At the time Creative Arts Agency told them that they do not accept unsolicited scripts, but it just so happens that Creative Arts Agency is the talent agency that represents Jonze, as well as a slew of Hollywood’s A-list talent.
Gadh and Sender’s screenplay is called “Belv” and features a cell-phone that takes on the form of an electronic wingman to help out the unlucky in love main character. The main issue that Gadh and Sender find with “Her” is that Phoenix’s character turns his cell-phone/computer device into a device to find love/companionship. They feel this too closely resembles the plot of “Belv’.
There has been no comment from Jonze regarding the lawsuit. You can check out the footage of “Belv” and the trailer for “Her” below:
