(PCM) Are you looking forward to the next installment of Spider-Man? Sony may have felt it had to reboot the franchise to hold onto licensing but they did something right in the process. The stories will be better. There is a reason.
The Amazing Spider-Man is on a path to follow canon. The clues were in the first installment. Did you catch them?
There were many. Start with the title “The Amazing” (see comic book covers below) is a big clue. There are others, how about how in first installment of The Amazing Spider-Man we didn’t have Peter Parker shooting web from his body organically. The film matched what comic book readers have known for almost 40 years. Peter Parker’s webbing was a product of his scientific skill. The Amazing Spider-Man wasn’t dead on accurate, but it appears to following Peter Parker’s chain of events as told through the comic books.
What does this mean to you? It means your back issues of The Amazing Spider-Man are about to go up in price. If the film holds true to the comics – and this is NOT a spoiler if you are a true follower of Spider-Man – you will see Gwen Stacy die in The Amazing Spider-Man. If you have a copy of The Amazing Spider-Man issue 121, that twenty cent investment in 1973 is going to shoot up big time.
The true believers that did not enjoy seeing Mary Jane in the 2002 Spider-Man trilogy and placing Gwen Stacy in as an afterthought will be glad to see Gwen Stacy and Mary Jane will both be a part of Peter’s life in the order they belong. It’s not a matter of IF Gwen Stacy dies in The Amazing Spider-Man feature films, it is a question of when. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 or will it be in the Amazing Spider-Man 3?
