(PCM) Famous voice-over artist Hal Douglas has passed away at the age of 89 after losing his battle with pancreatic cancer. While you may not necessarily know his face, you have most certainly heard his voice.
Douglas is one of the top three “go to guys” when it comes to voice-over work in the industry and throughout this career has done the voice-over work on thousands of movie trailers, Broadway shows, commercials and television shows.
Douglas resided in New York for most of his career, however during his later years he resided at his farm in Lovettsville, VA which is where is where he passed away.
Some of Douglas’s most well-known work includes the theatrical trailers for “Con-Air”, “Meet The Parents”, “Philadelphia” and “Forrest Gump”. He has also worked with networks such as The History Channel and A&E, as well as companies such as Mercedes Benz and Trojan condoms.
Douglas had incredible range with his voice and he was able to maintain a level of control and emphasis that made him a true master in his craft. He had precision timing and was well-respected for selling audiences on The Promise, which is by listening to his voice-over work, Douglas was able to expertly convey a promise to the audience about the experience they were likely to have by going to see the film, buy the product..etc.
Douglas is survived by his wife of 43 years Ruth Francis Douglas, two sons from a previous marriage and a daughter from his second marriage, along with three grandchildren. Our sincere condolences go out to the Douglas family during this difficult time.
