(PCM) The Veronica Mars Movie opens today and are you ready? Fans have been waiting patiently for over six years for their beloved characters and story to make their comeback and now their wishes have come true.
When plans for the film were first announced series creator Rob Thomas was able to make crowd-funding history when he raised over $5.7 million dollars on Kickstarter from loyal fans who so desperately wanted to see this film made.
The series which was on the air until 2007, when it was suddenly pulled after three seasons, starred Kristen Bell as an incredibly witty teenage private eye who lived in the fictional town of Neptune, CA. The show was always filled with the perfect balance of both tension and humor, which made it a favorite for both critics and fans alike. If you haven’t seen the TV series the folks over at What’s Trending have put together an amazing recap of all three season of the show. Whether you’re a lifelong fan or just plain curious about the crowd-funded movie, this recap will give you all the spoilers and story lines you need to see the movie!
We have had a chance to see the film and can honestly say that fans are sure to be pleased. The film opens up with a monologue and montage of scenes that bring the audience up to speed on everything that has been going on since the TV series left off. It gives just enough background where even audience members who have never seen the TV series can still understand and follow the film and have an enjoyable experience.
We learn that Veronica Mars has moved to NYC, is ready to take the bar exam and is about to interview with one of the city’s most prestigious law firms, headed by none other than Jamie Lee Curtis. We also learn that Veronica is in a fairly serious relationship with “Piz”, who is working in radio in the city.
Veronica sees on the news that her fellow classmate Carrie Bishop, or as she is known now as pop-star Bonnie DeVille, has been murdered and then receives a call from ex-flame Logan, who, as Bonnie’s former lover, has been accused of her murder. He is, of course, in need of Veronica’s assistance to help clear his name, so it is off to Neptune she goes.
Once back in Neptune, Veronica is able to reconnect with all of the familiar faces from her past such as her father Keith and friends Wallace and Mack. The high school reunion scene is truly where a ton of stars from the TV series can be spotted and is sure to be a delight to fans. There is also a cameo from actor James Franco that occurs later in the film that is absolutely brilliant.
As Veronica works to clear Logan’s name it becomes clear that she has truly found her calling in the world of private investigating. She must deal with police department corruption, high school enemies and more to eventually prove Logan’s innocence. Also in course of the investigation the feelings between her and Logan are once again reignited…like we didn’t see that coming!
Despite the small budget the film was incredibly well put together and in my opinion worth seeing whether you were a fan of the TV series or not. It is an engaging and witty murder mystery and marshmallows, rejoice….there is definitely some room left in there for a sequel.
