Nick Cannon Wears Whiteface and Sparks Controversy

(PCM) America’s Got Talent host Nick Cannon has been heavily promoting his new album “White People Party Music” which is set for release on April 1st, however he has stirred up quite a bit of controversy by donning Whiteface in promotional images that recently surfaced on his Instagram page.

Cannon shared the photos and video which feature him in whiteface make-up, blonde hair and a skater boy outfit and accent. The photo is accompanied with the following text and hashtags which are all stereo-typically based “white people” activities:

“It’s official… I’m White!!! #WHITEPEOPLEPARTYMUSIC #Wppm in stores April 1st!!!!!!Dude Go Get It!!!Join The Party!!!! #GoodCredit #DogKissing #BeerPong #FarmersMarkets #FistPumping #CreamCheeseEating #RacialDraft “Bro I got drafted!!”

The photos and video have caused many to label Cannon as being both racist, insensitive and hypocritical, but many others find them to be both funny and true.

Cannon took to Twitter to defend the images claiming “It’s funny how people take themselves so seriously. People love drama! We feed off of it. Just relax and have fun!!”

He even went as far as to dare one commenter who was unhappy with the images to don Blackface make-up just to see what would happen.

What do you think? Did Nick Cannon go too far or is it his freedom of expression? We are somehow reminded of the outrage when Juliana Hough recieved quite a bit of blacklash herself for donning Blackface for a Halloween costume last year after which she made a very public apology. Do you think perhaps Nick Cannon should have to do the same thing, as he could be looked at a being just as insensitive.
