(PCM) We were absolutely outraged to learn that a North Carolina school district has banned a young boy, Grayson Bruce, from bringing his “My Little Pony” lunch bag to school because they claim that it acts as a trigger for bullying.
So basically the school is saying, instead of dealing with the real issue at hand, which is the school’s obvious bullying problem, they would rather penalize the victim and not allow him to express himself freely. The school would rather blame a bag than face the fact that they have a bullying issue in their school.
The 9-year old boy claims that he has been verbally and physically attacked by his classmates after he brought his “My Little Pony” lunch bag to school. He was then told by school administrators that he would have to start bringing his lunch to school in something else, because they felt that the bag was the target. Will they be telling all the little girls that they are not allowed to have “My Little Pony” lunch bags as well? Would that not be the only fair scenario…but wait there is nothing wrong with that right? Because only little girls are supposed to like “My Little Pony”…that is complete rubbish!
The boy says that he knows the show is aimed more toward girls, but it happens to be his favorite cartoon show and he doesn’t see a problem with both girls and boys being able to like and watch the program. He says he enjoys the show’s message of friendship, which is something the school administrators obviously missed, and chose the lunch bag because it featured his favorite character from the show. We are guess the school has never heard of Bronies before, either…let’s get them to weigh in on this issue! If you don’t know…learn about Bronies here!
The school district has released the following response about the situation saying “An initial step was taken to immediately address a situation that had created a disruption in the classroom. Buncombe County Schools takes bullying very seriously, and we will continue to take steps to resolve this issue.” While the boy’s mother calls the school out saying “Saying a lunchbox is a trigger for bullying is like saying a short skirt is a trigger for rape. It’s flawed logic; it doesn’t make any sense”.
