“Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” in Theaters July 11

Dawn_of_the_Planet_of_the_Apes_8(PCM) Dawn of the Planet of the Apes will open in theaters nationwide starting July 11 and from the looks of the trailer, this is going to be one intense film.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes picks up 10 years after Rise of the Planet of the Apes, and America is not looking too good. After the humans and the apes separated, the humans were ravaged by disease and civil war while the apes took the forest.

The growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth’s dominant species.

Based on the trailer, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is going to be pretty heavy.

Starring in the film are Andy Serkis (Rise of the Planet of the Apes, The Prestige), Jason Clarke (Zero Dark Thirty, The Great Gatsby), Gary Oldman (The Dark Knight Rises, Lawless), Keri Russell (August Rush, Mission: Impossible III), Toby Kebbell (RocknRolla, Wrath of the Titans), Kodi Smit-McPhee (The Road, ParaNorman), Enrique Murciano (Traffic, Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous), Kirk Acevedo (The Thin Red Line, Invincible), and Judy Greer (13 Going on 30, Love & Other Drugs).

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is directed by Matt Reeves, known for Felicity (1998-2001), Cloverfield (2008), and Let Me In (2010). He is currently attached to an untitled Planet of the Apes sequel, due out in 2016. Seems like Fox has high expectations for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes if a sequel is already in the works.
