(PCM) One of the most prolific house music producers and remixers from the eighties and nineties, Frankie Knuckles has passed away at the age of 59. His immediate cause of death has not yet been revealed, however some rumors claim that he may have been suffering from Type II diabetes. Frankie Knuckles is credited with laying the groundwork for electronic dance music culture as well know it today.
Frankie Knuckles is legendary in the electronic music scene. He was never afraid to be experimental and many feel that his accomplishments over the years were under appreciated in music realm.
Knuckles was born in New York City and then relocated to Chicago in the 1970′s and began his DJ career spinning at The Warehouse, a club that is credited with the birth of house music. Knuckles reached such heights of success at The Warehouse that he was able to open his own club The Power Plant in 1983.
Over the year’s Frankie Knuckles has worked with a wide variety of artists including Diana Ross, Chaka Khan, and Michael Jackson to name a few. He released his debut album title “Beyond The Mix” in 1991 which contained well-known tracks such as “The Whistle Song” and “Workout”.
In a statement to the popularity of Frankie Knuckles in 2004, the City of Chicago renamed a stretch of Jefferson Street near the site of the old Warehouse “The Godfather of House Music” Frankie Knuckles Way.
Knuckles had some upcoming tour dates scheduled for this month and had just recently performed a DJ set at the UK’s famed Ministry Of Sound club.
