**Spoiler Alert** Stop reading now if you have not seen Sunday night episode of HBO’s Game Of Thrones!
(PCM) Yet again it seems that weddings and Westeros don’t mix! Last season viewers were witness to the horrific “red wedding” episode of Game Of Thrones where we lost beloved characters Robb Stark, his wife Talisa and mother Lady Catelyn Stark in a brutal surprise massacre. Now, season four gives us the “purple wedding”, as it has been dubbed by fans, during which television’s most hated villain the sadistic King Joffrey Baratheon finally met his fate.
As much as we would like to be happy to see King Joffrey go, there is this tiny part of us that says ‘damn…who am I going to hate now’? Joffrey’s antics throughout the series as deplorable as they were made for some incredibly entertaining television. He was brilliantly portrayed by actor Jack Gleeson and was someone you absolutely adored to hate.
Joffrey’s death occurred in such an unexpected way that at this point, we have not even learned who was his actual killer and what there motive may have been. Although with a character like Joffrey there were plenty to choose from!
Putting the “purple wedding” aside, this week’s jam-packed episode also revisited the evil Ramsey Snow, bastard of Roose Bolton, and just what he has done to Theon Greyjoy, better known now as “Reek”. Something tells us that Ramsey Snow is going to be our hated villain. We saw a heartbreaking split between Tyrion and Shae and Cersei and Brianne come face to face the for the first time since Jamie’s return to Kings Landing.
While King Joffrey’s death was shocking to viewers of the show that had not read George R.R. Martin’s book series, those that have read the book, yet again pretty much knew what to expect. Game Of Thrones loves to pull surprises on the viewer and by placing such an important death in only the second episode of the new season, we can hardly imagine what is yet to come.
