(PCM) During Wednesday night’s episode of Jeopardy, a contestant took a pretty nasty dig at host Alex Trebek by accusing him of wearing a suit made by sweatshop laborers.
The sarcastic comment made by contestant Tom Kavanaugh when Trebek was asking him what he planned to do with his winnings. He claimed he wanted to use the money to fund a documentary about sweatshop labor.
Kavanaugh said ” I toured a garment factory in Bangladesh about 10 years ago and thought ‘What if the shirt I am wearing was made by these people?’ so it’s a plan to try to put a face on the people that make our clothing.”
There is nothing wrong with that statement, however he then cuts directly into Trebek by saying “Maybe you can find out the names of the 8-year olds who made your fancy suit there, Alex?”
Ouch! Trebek appeared to be a bit taken back by the comment, but handled himself professionally and moved right ahead with the show.
The in-studio audience booed Kavanaugh who then sarcastically commented “Was that a low blow?” Yes, Mr. Kavanaugh it really kind of was!
