The Official Cast of “Star Wars: Episode VII” Finally Announced!

(PCM) The official cast for the J.J. Abrams’ directed sequel to 1983′s Return of the Jedi was finally released today and there are quite a few familiar names alongside some new additions to the franchise.

Disney announced plans to continue the Star Wars franchise with a new trilogy about a year and half ago after acquiring George Lucas’ company Lucasfilm for a whooping $4.05 billion.

Star Wars: Episode VII will star John Boyega (Attack the Block), Daisy Ridley (Blue Season), Adam Driver (HBO’s Girls, Frances Ha), Oscar Isaac (Drive, Inside Llewwyn Davis), Andy Serkis (The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring, Rise of the Planet of the Apes), Domhnall Gleeson (True Grit, About Time), and Max von Sydow (The Exorcist, Shutter Island) will join the original stars of the saga, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels (C-3PO), Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca), and Kenny Baker (R2-D2).

In a press release, J.J. Abrams said of the casting “We are so excited to finally share the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII. It is both thrilling and surreal to watch the beloved original cast and these brilliant new performers come together to bring this world to life, once again. We start shooting in a couple of weeks, and everyone is doing their best to make the fans proud.”

Principal photography for the film will begin in London in May. Star Wars: Episode VII is set to open in theaters starting December 18, 2015.
