(PCM) Staple of the New York City club kid scene and subject of the book “Disco Bloodbath”, which was later the basis for the 2003 film “Party Monster”, Michael Alig has been released from prison.

Alig served a 17-year sentence for the murder and dismemberment of drug dealer Andre “Angel” Melendez.  At the time of his arrest Alig was famous for his incredibly over-the-top parties and real-life theatrics. In the 2003 film, Alig was portrayed by actor Macaulay Culkin. Actor Seth Green and singer Marilyn Manson also appeared in the cult classic film.

Upon release Alig immediately posted to his Twitter account, claiming that he was almost re-arrested for filming his release but managed to smooth things over before heading back to NYC. He enjoyed a lunch of Mexican food and a Starbucks espresso instead of cocaine.

We are certainly Alig is going to have quite a time adjusting to the way that things have changed, especially the nightlife scene. However, he does appear to be adapting to social media quite nicely.

Club kid scene veteran James St. James even wrote Alig a letter detailing the many changes he would have to face once he was released. According to Twitter the pair were planning to meet up for dinner once Alig got himself settled.

James St. James is that author behind the book “Disco Bloodbath” which follows Alig’s story and was also the basis for “Party Monster” the movie.
