(PCM) Artist Lionel Richie was recently honored at the BET Awards with one of the evenings highest honors…the Lifetime Achievement Award. However, during the award show broadcast, Richies’ name was misspelled on the screen as he was accepting the award.
As Richie was up on the stage giving his speech, “Lionel Ritchie” was displayed at the bottom of the screen. While it is a simple spelling error, you would think that given the fact that Richie was receiving such a high award, someone would have done their homework with the name spelling…opps!
Obviously, Richie was unaware of the incident during his speech and went on to give a beautiful acceptance speech about the merits of both talent and soul.
BET has yet to comment on the incident, however it blew up via social media with the hash tag #LionelRitchie trending on various platforms.
