(PCM) Is it just me or does there seem to be quite a bit of experimenting with people’s moods going on lately. First there was the news about Facebook’s experiments with users moods and emotions and now British Airways has unveiled the ‘happiness blanket’ which is being used to conduct research on passengers moods while traveling.
The ‘happiness blanket’ is supplied by British Airways to travelers and features both neurosensors and fiber optics, which are woven into the blankets material. The sensors measure the passengers brainwaves and can sense if they are tense or relaxed. The blanket is designed to turn red to indicate tension is present and blue to show that the passenger is calm and relaxed.
In a statement to CNN, British Airways claims that “Using technology like the ‘happiness blanket’ is another way for us to investigate how our customers’ relaxation and sleep is affected by everything on board, from the amount of light in the cabin, [to] when they eat and their position in the seat”.
The ‘happiness blanket’ made its’ debut on a flight last week for London to New York. Several passengers volunteered to take part in the study and use the blanket. Their data was recorded and British Airways plans to continue to use the blankets on additional flights to collect more data.
