(PCM) Smartphone and tablet users are now able to take advantage of a new app called Doctor On Demand, which they can use to access a doctor who can then diagnose their symptoms and prescribe any needed medications all directly from the phone/tablet app.

The cost of the service runs $40 a month, but is an ideal solution for those individuals who don’t have the time to go to the doctors office or happen to be in need of a doctor when they are traveling far away from home.

The app is available to users in 47 states and the app boasts a pool of over 1,400 board certified doctors that are available on-call to the app. The app itself feature real-time video that connects the patient and the available doctor.

It has been stressed by Doctor On Demand that the app should not replace primary care physician visits or be used for any urgent emergencies or hard to diagnose illnesses. It should only be used to treat minor illnesses such as respiratory infections, fevers, allergies or minor infections

Currently, the Doctor On Demand app service is not linked to any health insurance plan so all cost associated with the service are the full responsibility of the patient. The use of smartphone and tablet technology to connect doctors with patients is becoming increasingly popular, as it is very convenient and is a true time and cost saver for both doctors and patients.
