(PCM) It is with great sadness that we report that the last original Ramone, drummer, Tommy Ramone, has passed away at the age of 62.
A call was made from Ramone’s wife, to Dave Frey who works for Ramones Productions and Silent Partner Management, to let me know that Tommy Ramone had passed away. So, far there have been no additional details released about his immediate cause of death.
Tommy Ramone was one of the co-founders of the legendary punk band The Ramones back in 1974. His band mates were Joey Ramone, DeeDee Ramone and guitarist Johnny Ramone. All members initially had different last names, but together adopted the last name of Ramone.
The band has been a huge influence in the world of rock n’ roll and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame back in 2002. Their staple hits such as “Blitzkreig Bop” and “I Wanna Be Sedated” truly put them on the map and assisted with their initial lack of commercial success.
The band’s influence has certainly left it’s mark on the musical landscape and to this day the band still has legions of fans all across the world. Our sincere condolences go out to Tommy Ramone’s family and friends during this difficult time.
