(PCM) This is certainly not the type of robbery story that you hear everyday! The man who stole a van belonging to single mother of five, Megan Brattan, had a change of heart and returned the vehicle after exchanging text messages with the single parent.
Bratten had driven her work van to a local area Kmart story in Missouri and claims that when she had finished her shopping and returned to the parking lot she found that her van had been stolen.
Bratten recalled that her cellphone was also in stolen van and decided to make an attempt at texting the thief in hopes of getting her vehicle back. Bratten claims her first few texts were quite angry and she told the thief that they had stolen the van from a single mother who needed it run her business and provide for her five children…there was of course some explicit language thrown in as well.
At first there was no response from the thief, but Bratten was persistent and kept sending message over a three hour time period, eventually pleading with the thief to return the vehicle.
Finally, he responded and gave her directions on where she could locate the van. The thief also revealed that he felt bad about the theft and his own children needed a meal on the table. Throughout the course of text messages with the thief Bratton also revealed that the van had a leaky transmission and when she finally was able to pick up the van there was an empty bottle of transmission fluid on the passenger seat.
Bratton did not contact the authorities and no charges were filed in this particular case.
