(PCM) Throughout Sunday evening and into the early hours of Monday morning, hoards of nude celebrity photographs were leaked onto the internet and it has created quite a frenzy.
The images were obtained through various hacks and initially put up on 4chan in one of the biggest leaks we have ever seen. The photos included nudes of Jennifer Lawrence, Kate Upton, Kirsten Dunst, Kristen Ritter, Hope Solo and many, many more.
Soon after the initial leak, the incident became referred to as “The Fappening” and was soon exploding all over social media. It has been a publicity nightmare for all of the stars involved in the leak and many have confirmed the authenticity of the images being outrages at the blatant violation of their privacy. Others have claimed that the images of fakes, but that has not stopped internet users from going on a frenzy to still grab a quick peek at the snaps to judge for themselves.
Authorities have been contacted in regards to the leak and there has been no word on the legal ramifications for those involved with the “Fappening”. Twitter has stepped up and suspended multiple accounts that were sharing the images and many file sharing accounts and even 4chan itself was down for a little while this afternoon.
While the details about how the photos were initially obtained are sketchy right now, many are claiming that the images came from the star’s private iCloud accounts which were hacked. The iCloud lets users sync data and images between all of their devices such as the iPhone, iPad, and desktop computer.
Last week, an unidentified user on 4chan was bragging that he had managed to gain access to the private and nude celebrity photos. He claimed that he would make more of the images and even video available if people were to give him Bitcoins and donations to his Paypal account. The user has claimed responsibility for the Celebgate or rather “The Fappening” hack.
Many of the celebrities who had their privacy violated have taken to social media to express their thoughts and comments on about the situation.
“Scott Pilgrim vs. The World” actress Mary E. Winstad said “To those of you looking at photos I took with my husband years ago in the privacy of our home, hope you feel great about yourselves. Knowing those photos were deleted long ago, I can only imagine the creepy effort that went into this. Feeling for everyone who got hacked.”
Former Nickelodeon star Victoria Justice said “These so called nudes of me are FAKE people. Let me nip this in the bud right now. *pun intended*
While many of the initial photo galleries have been taken down, it seems that every few moments a new gallery is popping up in a new location. A simple Google search for either “celebgate” or “the fappening” will bring up tons of results.
