Chloë Grace Moretz Stars in Studio Ghibli’s ‘The Tale of Princess Kaguya’

TheTaleofPrincessKaguya(PCM) Studio Ghibli has done it again and delighted audiences with The Tale of Princess Kaguya, an animated drama/fantasy opening in New York, Los Angeles, and Toronto October 17, 2014.

Legendary Studio Ghibli co-founder Isao Takahata (Grave of the Fireflies, Pom Poko) revisits Japan’s most famous folktale in this gorgeous, hand-drawn masterwork, decades in the making.

Found inside a shining stalk of bamboo by an old bamboo cutter (James Caan) and his wife (Mary Steenburgen), a tiny girl grows rapidly into an exquisite young lady (Chloë Grace Moretz).

The mysterious young princess enthralls all who encounter her – but ultimately she must confront her fate, the punishment for her crime.

From the studio that brought you Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro, and The Wind Rises comes a powerful and sweeping epic that redefines the limits of animated storytelling and marks a triumphant high point within an extraordinary career in filmmaking for director Isao Takahata.

The Tale of Princess Kaguya stars Chloë Grace Moretz, James Caan, Mary Steenburgen, Darren Criss, Lucy Liu, Beau Bridges, James Marsden, Oliver Platt, and Dean Cain.

The Tale of Princess Kaguya is an adaption of The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter, 10th Century Japanese folktale that is known throughout Japan and celebrated as the oldest extant Japanese narrative and an early example of proto-science fiction.

Isao Takahata’s film has lived up to the Studio Ghibli standard; The Tale of Princess Kaguya already has a 100% on Rotten Tomatoes with critics praising the film’s visuals and story.

Maggie Lee of Variety praises the film, saying “Isao Takahata’s retelling of the oldest recorded Japanese narrative is a visionary tour de force.” Kent Turner of Film-Forward.com calls The Tale of Princess Kaguya: “One of the most gorgeous animated films of the last decade.”
