(PCM)  Rockers Fall Out Boy have dropped their new single “Centuries” today and fans are going absolutely wild. The new track is a #1 trending topic globally on the internet and is currently available right now on iTunes. It will be released to other digital retailers and streaming services including Spotify, Beats and Amazon at midnight tonight.

Fall Out Boy are hot on the heels of their recently-wrapped MONUMENTOUR summer tour which received strong critical acclaim and the monster success of their #1 album Save Rock and Roll.

This will be the band’s first single from a forthcoming album on Island Records/DCD2 Records. The track, produced by JR Rotem, was recorded in Los Angeles, with fellow DCD2 artist LOLO lending backing vocals. To launch the single, the band created a video directed by Scantron and using footage shot by Beutler Ink, using Instagram’s brand new Hyperlapse app. An official music video will follow shortly. The band’s first live performance of “Centuries” can be seen on September 16th on Jimmy Kimmel Live on ABC.

ESPN’s inaugural coverage of the College Football Playoff will showcase the upcoming single “Centuries” as the featured track on ESPN’s College Football Playoff game and studio telecasts, and in on-air promotions throughout the season. ESPN will use the song in various capacities, including highlight packages and transitions in and out of commercial breaks during the network’s coverage of the New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day tripleheaders – the “New Year’s Six” – showcasing the semifinals and four additional premier bowls and the first-ever College Football National Championship on January 12. The song will also be a central part of the regular-season marketing efforts to promote the top college football matchups across ESPN’s networks each week. ESPN began using an instrumental version of “Centuries” on August 25 in advance of the opening weekend. Fall Out Boy and ESPN will also collaborate on a video for exclusive use in the game telecasts. The video will feature the band performing “Centuries” and college football highlights relevant to each College Football Playoff matchup.

Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz had the following comments about the new track:

“We never had a plan to jump right back into it after the whirlwind year we’ve had…but sometimes the song calls you. We started writing “Centuries” while we were on tour. Traveling the world for the last year we have seen, and been a part of, the landscape and fabric of music – from tiny sweaty clubs in Australia to insanely huge festivals in the UK. It felt impossible not to react to it, to be inspired and to want to scream back,” said Pete Wentz.

“Like The Great One said, “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.” We don’t feel any urge to turn the clock back; we crave something new, our place in it all. That some kids from the Middle of Nowhere, USA can make a mark or will scream long enough until the world listens is amazing – but it’s all just to prove to the next kid that she can pick up a guitar and know that it is a weapon.

Make no mistake, “Centuries” is, at its most distilled, the story of David & Goliath. It is us passing along the story of how we feel right before we step on stage, trading feeling small and human for all the sweat and grit and sheer power of belief it takes to stare down a giant. Sometimes wrongs are righted. Sometimes if you scream loud enough the world will listen. Sometimes the quintessential loser wins. Sometimes the giant falls.”
