IFC Films’ ‘The Heart Machine’ Opens in New York October 24

(PCM) In this age of catfishing, IFC Films’ romance/drama The Heart Machine touches on a fear that is invading our increasingly technology dependent society.

Tracking two parallel journeys that show how digital media complicates modern love, The Heart Machine explores the evolving relationship between physical and emotional intimacy, isolation in the urban hive, and the seduction of hiding behind a screen.

This modern mystery tells the story of Cody and Virginia, who fall in love online, despite the distance between them.

Through an interrelated series of events, Cody suspects that Virginia might not actually live in Berlin and may even live in the same city as he does, and seeks to find the truth.

The Heart Machine questions love and intimacy in the digital age, and whether you can really trust whom you meet on the internet.

The Heart Machine stars John Gallagher Jr. (HBO’s “The Newsroom,” Short Term 12), Kate Lyn Sheil (Netflix’s “House of Cards,” You’re Next) as well as David Call (Did You Hear About the Morgans?, Tiny Furniture), Louisa Krause (Martha, Marcy, May, Marlene, Young Adult), Libby Woodbridge (King Kelly, Netflix’s “House of Cards”), and Halley Wegryn Gross (Across the Universe, The Babysitters).

Written and directed by Zachary Wigon (Don’t Walk Away in Silence, Someone Else’s Heart) The Heart Machine currently has a rating of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Calum Marsh of the Village Voice praised the film, writing: “Its concerns are deeper, and more richly psychological, than merely trendy probings of the zeitgeist” while Andrew Barker of Variety writes: “Kate Lyn Sheil and John Gallagher Jr. give excellent performances in Zachary Wigon’s impressive debut.”
