(PCM) Critics are raving about Eva Green and Shailene Woodley’s performances in Gregg Araki’s drama/thriller White Bird in a Blizzard, in theaters on a limited run starting October 24.
Kat Connors is 17 years old when her perfect homemaker mother, Eve, a beautiful, enigmatic, and haunted woman, disappears – just as Kat is discovering and relishing her newfound sexuality.
Having lived for so long in a stifled, emotionally repressed household, she barely registers her mother’s absence and certainly doesn’t blame her doormat of a father, Brock, for the loss.
In fact, it’s almost a relief. But as time passes, Kat begins to come to grips with how deeply Eve’s disappearance has affected her.
Returning home on a break from college, she finds herself confronted with the truth about her mother’s departure, and her own denial about the events surrounding it…
White Bird in a Blizzard stars Shailene Woodley (Divergent), Eva Green (300: Rise of an Empire), Christopher Meloni (TV’s “Law & Order: SVU”), Shiloh Fernandez (Evil Dead), Gabourey Sidibe (Precious), Thomas Jane (The Mist), Dale Dickey (Iron Man 3), Mark Indelicato (TV’s “Ugly Betty”), Sheryl Lee (TV’s “Twin Peaks”), and Angela Bassett (Malcolm X).
White Bird in a Blizzard, directed by Gregg Araki (Mysterious Skin, The Doom Generation) currently has a fresh rating of 71% on Rotten Tomatoes with critics praising Eva Green’s performance as Eve, the disappeared housewife.
Chase Whale of The Playlist writes “White Bird in a Blizzard is worth seeing for Eva Green’s performance alone, and to experience the dreamlike quality of Gregg Araki’s individual, highly unique vision of cinema.”
Peter Debruge of Variety says: “It’s easy to be distracted by (and possibly even to dismiss) “White Bird” as a tarted-up Nancy Drew mystery without recognizing it’s a complex take on how teens must break away from their parents to become their own person.”
White Bird in a Blizzard opens in theaters on a limited run starting October 24, 2014.
