Praise the Comedy Gods, There’s Going to be a “23 Jump Street”

22_Jump_Street_11(PCM) It’s only been about three months since Columbia Pictures released the comedy hit of the summer, 22 Jump Street, surpassing expectations and proving that sequels can be just as good if not better than the predecessor, and now comes news from Deadline announcing that work on a third installment in Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s Jump Street series is underway.

Deadline reports that Rodney Rothman, former head writer for the Late Show with David Letterman and one of the writers of 22 Jump Street, is set to write the script but no word yet on whether Chris Miller or Phil Lord will be back to direct the third film.

Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum have charmed and amused audiences as a hilarious cop-buddy duo who go undercover as high school students in 21 Jump Street and college students in 22 Jump Street to infiltrate and take down drug rings threatening the community.

Their bromance struck the funny bone of America; 21 Jump Street grossed over $138 million in the summer of 2012 and 22 Jump Street proved to be a summer blockbuster, grossing more than $188 million.

21 Jump Street earned a certified fresh rating of 85% from critics and an 83% from audience members on Rotten Tomatoes while 22 Jump Street boasts an 84% from critics and an 83% from audience members.

Little else is known about 23 Jump Street, though we can assume that the laughs will keep coming.

The end credits of 22 Jump Street featured hilarious clips of scenes and trailers of over 20 faux sequels to the Jump Street franchise, featuring Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum taking their antics to space, Paris, and other hilarious settings, but will any of them come to fruition for the third Jump Street?

Captain Dickinson, played by Ice Cube, tells the undercover duo at the end of 22 Jump Street to get ready for medical school, hinting that 23 Jump Street could see Tatum and Hill suiting up in scrubs, but it looks like we’ll just have to wait to find out!
