‘Saw’ Re-Releases in Theaters Oct. 31 For 10th Anniversary

Saw(PCM) In celebration of one of the most talked about horror films of the 2000’s, Lionsgate is re-releasing their 2004 thriller, Saw, on Halloween, Friday, October 31, 2014.

Shocking audiences and critics alike, Saw originally released in theaters on October 29, 2004, splitting critics on the film’s gory take on horror.

Richard Roeper of Ebert and Roeper openly disliked the film saying: “Saw has art-house ambitions, but it’s nothing but a glorified snuff film. I despised this movie” while David Edelstein of Slate called Saw “an ingenious machine for inducing terror, rage, and paralyzing unease.”

The directorial debut from filmmaker James Wan, this psychological thriller comes from the first screenplay by actor Leigh Whannell, who also stars.

Whannell plays Adam, one of two men chained up in a mysterious chamber. The other, Dr. Gordon (Cary Elwes), like Adam, has no idea how either of them got there.

Neither of them are led to feel optimistic by the man lying between them dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Together, Adam and Dr. Gordon attempt to piece together what has happened to them and who the sadistic madman behind their imprisonment is.

Also starring Danny Glover and Monica Potter, Saw premiered at the 2004 Sundance Film Festival.

Saw was directed by James Wan (Insidious, The Conjuring) from the screenplay by Leigh Whannell (Insidious).

Saw and its six sequels, which have been cited by the Guinness Book of World Records as the “Most Successful Horror Franchise” of all time, have grossed over $874 million at the box office worldwide since 2004.
