(PCM) It has been revealed that both the FBI and Apple are diving in to investigate the gigantic hack that allowed hundreds of nude celebrity photos to be leaked onto the internet over the weekend.
The hack is thought to have come from access to the various celebrities through their iCloud accounts and many are blaming a flaw in Apple’s “Find My Phone” app as the entry point for the hacker(s) to gain access to the private iCloud accounts.
A spokesperson for the FBI says “The FBI is aware of the allegations concerning computer intrusions and the unlawful release of material involving high profile individuals, and is addressing the matter. Any further comment would be inappropriate at this time”.
Jennifer Lawrence’s publicist has released comments saying that the authorities have been notified about the incident and they plan to prosecute anyone who posts the stole photos of Jennifer Lawrence. Model Kate Upton’s attorney also commented on the incident saying that it was an outrageous violation of her privacy and they plan to pursue anyone who is duplicating the illegally obtained images to the fullest extent of the law.
As quick as the photos are being shut down on various social media channels, they are popping right back up again in another place. It has almost been like a game of cat and mouse as authorities try to track down the culprits and also discover the origin of the hack.
Majority of the over 100 celebrities affected have claimed that the photos are indeed authentic, while a few others such as Ariana Grande and Victoria Justice are claiming they are fake or have been tampered with in Photoshop.
