(PCM) Writer-director J.C. Chandor’s crime-drama, A Most Violent Year, will open this year’s AFI Fest the night of November 6 at the TLC Chinese Theater in Hollywood.
Set during the winter of 1981 — statistically one of the most crime-ridden of New York City’s history — A Most Violent Year is a drama following the lives of an immigrant and his family as they attempt to capitalize on the American Dream, while the rampant violence, decay, and corruption of the day drag them in and threaten to destroy all they have built.
Starring Academy Award-nominated actress Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty, The Help), Golden Globe-nominated actor Oscar Isaac (Drive, Inside Llewyn Davis), David Oyelowo (Jack Reacher, The Last King of Scotland), Alessandro Nivola (Face/Off, American Hustle), and Academy Award-nominated actor Albert Brooks (Drive, Taxi Driver), A Most Violent Year is written and directed by Academy Award-nominated writer-director J.C. Chandor (Margin Call, All is Lost).
“J.C. Chandor has put together a remarkable crime drama, which is also an immersive period piece and morality tale that resonates on an emotional level. Chandor is a talented director who takes risks with every film that he makes and ‘A Most Violent Year’ is no exception” AFI festival director Jacqueline Lyanga told Variety.

If you’re lucky enough to be attending AFI Fest, catch A Most Violent Year at the TLC Chinese Theater on opening night, November 6. Otherwise, the film will run in Los Angeles and New York starting New Year’s Eve and expand nationwide during January.
