(PCM) Focus Features’ The Theory of Everything explores the excitement, the joy, and the tribulations of being one of the top theoretical physicists ever while falling in love while also unknowingly slowly succumbing to a degenerative neuron disease.
Starring Eddie Redmayne (Les Misérables) and Felicity Jones (The Amazing Spider-Man 2), this is the extraordinary story of one of the world’s greatest living minds, the renowned astrophysicist Stephen Hawking, who falls deeply in love with fellow Cambridge student Jane Wilde.
Once a healthy, active young man, Hawking received an earth-shattering diagnosis at 21 years of age.
With Jane fighting tirelessly by his side, Stephen embarks on his most ambitious scientific work, studying the very thing he now has precious little of – time.
Together, they defy impossible odds, breaking new ground in medicine and science, and achieving more than they could ever have dreamed.
The film is based on the memoir Travelling to Infinity: My Life with Stephen, by Jane Hawking, and is directed by Academy Award winner James Marsh (Man on Wire).
Starring alongside Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones are Charlie Cox (Stardust, Stone of Destiny), Emily Watson (War Horse, Breaking the Waves), Simon McBurney (The Last King of Scotland, Body of Lies), and David Thewlis (Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Seven Years in Tibet).
The Theory of Everything currently has a fresh rating of 78% on Rotten Tomatoes; Justin Chang of Variety called the film: “A stirring and bittersweet love story, inflected with tasteful good humor…” and Leslie Felperin of The Hollywood Reporter praises the film as “a solid, duly moving account of their complicated relationship, spanning roughly 25 years, and made with impeccable professional polish.”
