(PCM) It’s hard not to notice that two of Marvel’s next films are characters that fill in space that social media’s argued for the past few years – a woman and a minority.
While both characters Ms. Marvel and Black Panther are not being changed to suit any social needs on film, the are what they are. Ms. Marvel is female and Black Panther is black.
These characters have never been hot titles for Marvel, however one could argue that Punisher was never one either.
Yet Guardians of the Galaxy has proved any title by Marvel can be a huge winner. If ever a time was ripe to meet the needs of social media flag bearers, this is that time.
Black Panther will premiere November 3, 2017. Chad Boseman has won the leading role. “I’m blessed to be a part of this Marvel Universe, and to work with you both, and I look forward to making magic together,” Boseman said after taking the stage with both Robert Downey, Jr. (Iron Man) and Chris Evans (Captain America).
Black Panther may not be a huge title for Marvel, but the character has played an integral role in many big Marvel stories such as Civil War.
Ms. Marvel will wait until the following summer, July 6, 2018. Both films come well after Avengers 3. Will we meet them in Avengers 3 with their own stories carrying on in their own solo adventures or will we face another origin story for both, setting up yet another Avengers team up in an Avengers 4 – a new cast?
Speculation aside, we do know that Captain Marvel will be Ms. Marvel, aka Carol Danvers. She currently enjoys her own title with Marvel in comic book stores now. Unlike Marvel’s announcement of Chad Boseman as Black Panther, there has not yet been a choice made for Ms. Marvel. This will be a hot role for anyone in Hollywood willing to go blond. Or will Marvel just not care what hair color the character has in film?
