Justin Long and Emmy Rossum Star in Sam Esmail’s ‘Comet’

Comet(PCM) Writer-director Sam Esmail makes his directorial debut with Comet, a romance-comedy-drama that examines the evolution of a couple’s relationship in a parallel universe.

After premiering at the 2014 Los Angeles Film Festival, Michael Nordin in his review for IndieWire praised Comet, writing, “A star-crossed romance that often feels cosmic and intimate within the span of a single scene… it’s as appealingly strange, funny, and melancholy as those components suggest.”

Meanwhile, Todd McCarthy of the Hollywood Reporter showed Comet less love in his review, writing, “The writer-director tries very hard to inject new life into the traditional boy-meets-girl romantic dramedy — but way too hard…It’s possible that certain young viewers might connect with the romantic spirit that smolders somewhere under the frantic, motormouthed verbal compulsion on display here, but most will wonder if the effort is worth it.”

Based on the intriguing and well scored trailer and the chemistry between Rossum and Long, I’d give Comet a chance. Read the official synopsis and watch the trailer below!

Justin Long and Emmy Rossum are star-crossed lovers whose relationship blooms and unravels over the course of six years in this mysterious, dazzlingly original romance.

When a chance encounter brings together the cynical Dell (Long) and the quick-witted Kimberly (Rossum), the stage is set for a tempestuous love affair that unfolds like a puzzle.

As the film zigzags back and forth in time-from a meteor shower in LA, to an encounter in a Paris hotel room, to a fateful phone call – an unforgettable portrait of a relationship emerges. Sumptuously shot and boasting incredible chemistry between the leads, Comet is a one-of-a-kind cosmic love story.

Comet opens in select theaters starting December 5, 2014.
