(PCM) How do you keep actors in on contract when it ends with their next film? Divide it into a two-part story. Smart Marvel.
Infinity War Part 1 will hit theaters May 2018.
Infinity War Part 2 will make us wait no more than one more year. It will close out the story May 2019.
Perhaps it’s a very good thing too. In keeping with bringing canon to the big screen, The Infinity War is a bold and epic story to take on. The backstory to Infinity War is centered around the cosmic villain, Thanos.
We first caught a glimpse of Thanos in the easter egg ending of The Avengers in 2012. The character was fleshed out a bit in 2014’s Guardian’s of the Galaxy with Josh Brolin securing the role as Thanos.
From a few of the Marvel films to date, plenty of innuendos and references to the Infinity stones have been made. The writing has been proverbially – on the wall. Eventually the story of Thanos and his pursuit of the Infinity Gauntlet could be told.
Once again as Marvel has demonstrated by sticking to successful retelling of print lore known as, canon – we can see a good story in the making.
To the casual movie watcher the Infinity Gauntlet is a glove with elemental stones (or gems) which all have their own powerful properties. When collected into the Infinity Gauntlet, the power is combined into an almost godlike tool.
Without spoiling the story entirely, the Infinity Gauntlet is a powerful device a cosmic titan known as Thanos is on a quest to complete. His reasons will most likely not be the same as the original story, nor is the outcome expected to be the very same, but in going with this particular story, it serves to allow Marvel movie execs to make changes to the Marvel Cinematic Universe while also allowing story writers to tell a compelling story with a gripping end.
Similar to Civil War where a host of Marvel superheroes are featured, Avengers 3: Infinity Gauntlet should include numerous superheroes to combat and defeat Thanos.
Most may believe that superhero films are to a point they can be dull. The hero always wins. With both Civil War and Infinity Gauntlet, Marvel will be sure to deliver great stories that while the good guys may always be victorious in the end, they are not all sure to win (read survive).
The original Infinity Gauntlet story was a What If story while a second story in 2010 was more inside the actual Marvel Universe where characters such as Spider-Man, Wolverine and even Dr. Doom participated.
In forcing Infinity Gauntlet into a two part story, it will enable writers to flesh out a more acceptable story which introduces more Marvel superheroes without feeling rushed.
Most of all, it allows Marvel to get just one more film out of each actor that is under contract to make X number of films.
