(PCM) Florian Habicht’s music documentary Pulp: a Film About Life, Death & Supermarkets examines the career of the highly successful BritPop band, Pulp.
Florian Habricht’s witty, innovative documentary follows the legendary titular band (perhaps the smartest and most charismatic in all of BritPop) as they prepare to say farewell after 25 years of performances.
Though culminating with the farewell concert the band played to thousands of adoring fans in their hometown of Sheffield, England, Pulp is by no means a traditional concert film or rock doc.
As much a testament to the band as it is to the city and inhabitants of Sheffield, Pulp weaves exclusive concert footage with man-on-the-street interviews and dreamy staged sequences to paint a picture much larger, funnier, more moving and more life-affirming than any music film of recent memory.
Critics are praising Habicht’s documentary, giving it a fresh rating of 87% on Rotten Tomatoes. Cath Clarke of TimeOut writes “Jarvis Cocker’s elbow-jiggling antics have always been silly and giddy but still, somehow, way beyond cool” and David James of We Got This Covered wrote: “Pulp: A Film About Life, Death and Supermarkets is the best film that could be made about Pulp.”
Written and directed by Florian Habricht (Woodenhead, Love Story) along with co-writer Peter O’Donaghue (Happy Everyday), Pulp: A Film About Life, Death and Supermarkets opens in the U.S. in New York on November 19, 2014.
