Reese Witherspoon’s ‘Wild’ Opens in Theaters December 5

Wild(PCM) Wild, the captivating adventure-drama from Fox Searchlight Pictures, has been gaining Oscar buzz since it’s premiere at the Telluride Film Festival in August; critics are saying that the buzz is well deserved, giving high praises to Witherspoon for her lead performance and to director Jean-Marc Vallée.

Wild has already earned a fresh rating of 86% on Rotten Tomatoes with a critic consensus of: “Powerfully moving and emotionally resonant, Wild finds director Jean-Marc Vallée and star Reese Witherspoon working at the peak of their respective powers.”

Wendy Ide of the UK’s The Times, along with many others, praises producer and star of the film, Reese Witherspoon, saying, “Reese Witherspoon pulls on a pair of ill-fitting hiking boots and stomps straight into the Oscar race with a raw, wrenching performance as the writer Cheryl Strayed in this journey back from the brink.”

Justin Chang of Variety writes: “A ruggedly beautiful and emotionally resonant saga of perseverance and self-discovery that represents a fine addition to the recent bumper crop of bigscreen survival stories.”

Based on the memoir, Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail by Cheryl Strayed, Wild came into existence after Reese Witherspoon bought the movie rights in 2012 reading an advanced copy of the memoir. Witherspoon made the announcement to star in the film as well as produce it through her new production company, Pacific Standard, on March 8, 2012.

With the dissolution of her marriage and the death of her mother, Cheryl Strayed has lost all hope. After years of reckless, destructive behavior, she makes a rash decision.

With absolutely no experience, driven only by sheer determination, Cheryl hikes more than a thousand miles of the Pacific Crest Trail, alone.

Wild powerfully captures the terrors and pleasures of one young woman forging ahead against all odds on a journey that maddens, strengthens, and ultimately heals her.

Wild stars Reese Witherspoon, Thomas Sadoski, Michiel Huisman, W. Earl Brown, Gaby Hoffman, Kevin Rankin, Laura Dern, and Keene McRae.
