(PCM) Kmart has recently made the controversial announcement that they will be opening their doors for Black Friday shoppers at 6 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day and remain open for 42 hour straight.

The Sears company, which owns Kmart as well, also revealed that they too will be opening up early for Black Friday by allowing shoppers in their stores at 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day.

As you can imagine these announcements have been met with a certain amount of criticism, as many feel that the Thanksgiving holiday should be spent with family and loved ones and not out working retail.

Many feel that many low-wage employees are being taken advantage of by forcing them to work on Thanksgiving and some supporters of the “War On Thanksgiving” have even vowed to boycott several of the stores that are forcing their employees into working the holiday.

When questioned about the decision a spokesperson for both Kmart/Sears claims that the stores will be staffed with seasonal employees on the holiday, as well as, with workers who volunteered to take the shift and all will be compensated with holiday pay for their efforts.

The company spokesperson also went on to tell reporters at The Huffington Post, that the company enjoys being able to give back more to their members and many enjoy shopping well before Black Friday, so they are excited to open their doors early on Thanksgiving, as well as, offer additional access opportunities to shop and save this holiday season.

Kmart and Sears are not the only ones stirring up some shopping controversy, both Walmart and Macy’s have also announced plans to be open on Thanksgiving Day.

Time to weigh in! Do you think Black Friday shopping has gotten out of control?  Do you think that stores should remain open or closed on Thanksgiving Day?
