(PCM) Music fans everywhere rejoice! Pharrell Williams and Gwen Stefani, both veteran musicians with an impressive body of work, Grammy awards, and hits still topping the charts today, are collaborating on an original song for Paddington.
Williams and Stefani are co-writing and performing “Shine” for the family-comedy, opening in theaters January 16, 2015.
The two creative artists are no strangers, having previously recorded several tracks together including Williams’ “Can I Have It Like That” and Stefani’s “Hollaback Girl” and “Spark the Fire,” whish just dropped today but has seemingly been pulled from every site that posted it.
“Pharrell and Gwen are the perfect artistic duo and they truly brought to life the charm that Paddington represents in the terrific song ‘Shine,’” says Bob Weinstein in a statment. “We are so proud to have them be a part of this classic film.”
“I am honored to join forces with Pharrell and be part of bringing this beloved classic to life for Paddington’s next big adventure,” says Gwen Stefani.
Pharrell Williams adds, “What a wonderful opportunity, as a parent, to contribute to something as classic, authentic and generational to all of our lives, as Paddington Bear.”
Pharrell Williams was nominated in the 2014 Academy Awards for his original song for Despicable Me 2, “Happy,” so hopes are high for his collaboration with Gwen Stefani, especially since the pair’s first collaboration, “Hollaback Girl,” was the first digital download to sell one million copies in the U.S.
From the beloved novels by Michael Bond and producer David Heyman (Harry Potter), Paddington tells the story of the comic misadventures of a young Peruvian bear who travels to the city in search of a home.
Finding himself lost and alone, he begins to realize that city life is not all he had imagined – until he meets the kindly Brown family who read the label around his neck that says “Please look after this bear. Thank you,” and offer him a temporary haven.
It looks as though his luck has changed until this rarest of bears catches the eye of a museum taxidermist.
Paddington stars Ben Whishaw as the titular bear alongside Hugh Bonneville, Nicole Kidman, Sally Hawkins, Jim Broadbent, Julie Walters, Michael Gambon, and Imelda Staunton.
Paddington opens in U.S. theaters nationwide January 16, 2015.
