‘Spectre’ Announced As the Next James Bond Film, Starring James Craig

Spectre(PCM) In a live stream from the 007 launch event at the legendary Pinewood Studios in England this morning, director Sam Mendes announced the title and cast of the 24th installment in the James Bond film series, Spectre.

Mendes’ first reveal from the new film was the title screen; metallic beveled font spelling out Spectre slowly appearing from with a solid black background with a gunshot leaving a fractured bullet hole through the “c” in the middle of the title.

To the delight of those in attendance and James Bond fans watching the live stream worldwide, Sam Mendes jokingly introduced the first “cast member;” the new Aston Martin DB10, designed in collaboration with the director, continuing the franchises’ 50 year relationship with the luxury sports car manufacturer.

Mendes goes on to introduce the first real cast members to the 007 stage, starting with the “home team,” aka MI6: Rory Kinnear returning as Mr. Tanner, Ben Whishaw returning as Mr. Q “for a new generation,” Naomie Harris as the new Mrs. Pennyworth, established in the last film, Skyfall, as well as Ralph Fiennes as the new M, brought in at the end of the last film, following the demise of M played by Judi Dench.

Sherlock‘s Andrew Scott is introduced as a new member to the cast, also a member of MI6, playing Denbigh. Dave Bautista of Guardians of the Galaxy is also joining the cast as henchman Mr. Hinx.

The new ‘Bond women’ are Malèna‘s Monica Bellucci as Lucia Sciarra and Blue is the Warmest Color‘s Léa Seydoux.

Daniel Craig will star in the November 6, 2015 release, marking the fourth James Bond film to star Craig since 2006’s Casino Royale.

Christoph Waltz also joins the cast as Oberhauser, heavily rumored but not yet confirmed to be Ernst Stavro Blofeld, Bond’s longtime nemesis.

Spectre is the acronym for the international crime syndicate, Special Executive for Counter-intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge and Extortion, which Ernst Stavro Blofeld led.

Spectre‘s screenplay comes from Gladiator and Hugo‘s John Logan along with veteran James Bond writing team Robert Wade and Neal Purvis (The World is Not Enough, Skyfall).

Interstellar‘s Hoyte van Hoytema will serve as director of photography.

Skyfall, the last installment in the James Bond franchise, grossed over $1.1 billion in worldwide box office sales and won two Academy Awards; Best Sound Editing and Best Original Track for Adele’s title song.
