(PCM) Josh Gad is well on his way to becoming a household name; the actor voiced everyone’s favorite talking snowman in Disney’s Frozen, stars alongside comedy superstar Kevin Hart in The Wedding Ringer, opening in theaters January 16, 2015, will in the Adam Sandler 2015 summer blockbuster Pixels, and, according to TheWrap, is currently in talks to play iconic film critic Roger Ebert in Russ & Roger Go Beyond.
Russ & Roger Go Beyond tells the story of filmmaker Russ Meyer and Roger Ebert as the two embark on a journey to create the 1970’s cult classic, Beyond the Valley of the Dolls, with a script penned by Emmy award-winner and “Saturday Night Live” writer Christopher Cluess.
If Josh Gad takes the role, he’ll star alongside Will Ferrell who will be playing the X-rated independent filmmaker Russ Meyer.
A director has yet to be attached Russ & Roger Go Beyond, which is being produced by Mark Amin, David Permut and Richard Waltzer.
Russ Meyer and Roger Ebert teamed up to create Beyond the Valley of the Dolls after Ebert wrote a positive review of one of Meyer’s films, prompting Meyer to ask Ebert to pen the script his film.
Sadly, the world lost Roger Ebert to cancer of the thyroid and salivary glands on April 4, 2013, but Ebert wrote about the process of creating Beyond the Valley of the Dolls and the film’s reception back in 1980 on the tenth anniversary of it’s release, allowing us to see the film and its creation process from the first-hand point of view of the prolific critic.
