The Official Rating for Fifty Shades of Grey is Here

FiftyShadesofGrey(PCM) Sam Taylor-Johnson’s adaptation of the erotic romance novel, Fifty Shades of Grey, has officially been rated by the MPAA, receiving a designated R rating and surprising almost no one.

The MPAA deemed Fifty Shades of Grey suitable only for those 17 years or older due to the film’s “strong sexual content including dialogue, some unusual behavior and graphic nudity, and for language.”

Gaining viral popularity after sparking controversy around its treatment of BDSM, its origins as an erotic Twilight fan-fiction, and its grammar/literary content, Fifty Shades of Grey has one on to sell over 100 million copies worldwide.

Directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson (Nowhere Boy) from the screenplay by Kelly Marcel (Saving Mr. Banks) based on the the novel by E.L James, Fifty Shades of Grey will open in theaters nationwide on February 13, 2015, just in time to capitalize on Valentine’s Day.

Fifty Shades of Grey stars Jamie Dornan as Christian Grey and Dakota Johnson as Anastasia Steele, alongside Victor Rasuk, Marcia Gay Harden, Callum Keith Rennie, Jennifer Ehle, Max Martini, Luke Grimes, Eloise Mumford, and Rita Ora.
