(AOTN) It seems that lately all we hear about is the laundry list of reasons why the films in the DC Universe do not seem to hold a candle to the films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as the first four films that they have released all received lackluster critical and fan review alike, that is until “Wonder Woman” came along. Talk about flipping the script. One of the main concerns among fans was the over all dark and dismal tones that seemingly encompassed majority of the DC films, just think back to all the backlash “Batman v. Superman: Dawn Of Justice” received. While personally, we didn’t really have a problem with the dark overtones of the film for others it was a huge turn-off and they were quite vocal with their opinions of the film.
It is no doubt that the films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe have an overall brighter tone, but are superheros supposed to be a little bit brooding? Either way it led to a problem for the DC Universe, which they have seemingly solved with the release of “Wonder Woman” starring Gal Gadot and Chris Pine in the leading roles.
“Wonder Woman”, while set against the dismal background of WWI, still managed to provide audiences with a strong message of overcoming obstacles (both physical and emotional) and an overall message of hope and love. Do not for one minute think that the film is all hearts and flowers, as there are plenty of kick-ass action fight sequences and incredibly heavy subject matter that come into to play as well, but at the end of the day our Wonder Woman, Diana, believes in the goodness of human kind and that love will always find a way. These are the character’s morals and they strongly differ from those we have seen showcased in other DC Universe characters. She is the kind of superhero that others can look-up to and aspire to imitate.
“Wonder Woman” gave DC Universe fans the superhero they have been searching for, at least when it comes to the big screen and we absolutely can’t wait to see Wonder Woman team up with Batman and others to form the Justice League. “Wonder Woman” was the perfect lead-in for the “Justice League” film, as it certainly left fans hungry for more Wonder Woman action, as well as, to see just how the character of Diana has changed to adapt to more modern times. The DC Universe needed Wonder Woman and like a true superhero, she delivered ten-fold! The film has been a box office success and both fans and critics alike are singing her praises, as the film has helped redefine the genre and has greatly assisted in poising the DC Universe to smash to box office this fall.
