In August of 2015, I met with my manager one day after a tough call saying that a label had passed on signing me. We talked it out and I looked at my manager and said, “We’re starting our own label,” and that is just what we did. It was a crazy pipe dream but we did it and we were successful. Now people come up to me and say “people are telling me they wanna do this the way Russell Dickerson did it.” This happened because We were at a dead end. We had no money, no label, so my wife and I decided we were going to shoot a music video for my song “Yours.” We uploaded it to YouTube in August of 2015 and then the next thing we know it’s playing on Sirius XM and on the top playlists on Spotify. I felt a lot of freedom and pride, because we were doing this our way, and All on our own. We had no help. Just me, my wife and my management team. When it all started working it was a feeling of “See… Told ya so,” haha. It really was and is still one of the most gratifying feelings of just starting from the absolute bottom and seeing how far we have come now.
