After two weeks on top, Kingsman: The Golden Circle has topped the juggernaut hit IT. While the Kingsman sequel earned enough to take the top spot, the film performed under expectations. Kingsman: The Golden Circle brought in an estimated $39 million domestically in its opening weekend. The original Kingsman earned $36.2 in its opening weekend domestically ($128.2 million in total in the States)) and $414 million worldwide back in 2015. The numbers seem on par with the original, so it will be interesting to see how Kingsman: The Golden Circle performs in the coming weeks both domestically and internationally.
IT continues to rake in the money, finishing second at the box office this weekend earning an estimated $30 million. So far, IT has earned an impressive $266 million. Even with well-known franchises and interesting releases, IT continues to rake in the money.
The other big release of the weekend was The ‘LEGO Ninjango’ Movie, which underperformed in all respects, finishing third and opening with $21 million. Ninjango stalled both critically and financially. While there was plenty of competition this weekend, expectations were higher for the popular LEGO franchise. Compared to the first two films 2014’s The LEGO Movie made $69 million and earlier this year’s The LEGO Batman Movie opened with $53 million, The LEGO Ninjango failed to connect to the audiences in the same way.
Here’s the top-five weekend box office estimates according to collider:
