Word on the street is that Jessie Eisenberg‘s Lex Luthor has been cut from ‘Justice League‘. Eisenberg’s portrayal was perhaps one the most polarizing aspects of ‘Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice‘. Despite how you may feel about Eisenberg’s portrayal of Superman’s arch-nemesis, there’s no doubt that the character was grossly miswritten in concept. Eisenberg was previously confirmed by WB to have some presence in the movie, so this piece of news should be taken with a MASSIVE grain of salt.
If Eisenberg been cut from ‘Justice League‘, it is both welcome, but also troubling. This is just the first of may ‘Justice League‘ changes that have come about in the last few months. There’s not much we know about the reshoots that took place, other than Joss Whedon taking over for Zack Snyder to finish the film, and the fact that Batman’s character will be more traditional this time around.
In a recent held by Q&A with readers, Batman-On-Film were asked what role they think that Lex Luthor would play in the movie. Surprisingly, the reporter affirmatively suggested that Eisenberg had indeed been cut from the film:
“He doesn’t have one. If he did prior to all the changes/reshoots, it was cut.”
It’s Interesting, becuause the ending of BvS seemed to imply that Eisenberg’s Luthor would play a significant role in ‘Justice League‘. If Eisenberg has indeed been cut from the film, it will surely help the already massive cast that includes Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Jason Mamoa, Ezra Miller, Ray Fischer, Cirian Hinds, Willem Dafoe, Amy Adams, Diane Lane, J.K. Simmons, and Henry Cavill (maybe?), and many more.
With what is already seemingly a bloated plot (based on the trailer), it would be nice to see a superhero movie that isn’t afraid to kill their babies to make a better movie. Only time will tell, as ‘Justice League is set to be released on November 17, 2017.
