During their panel at NYCC FOX’s “Gotham” revealed some pretty big news to fans. Showrunner John Stephens not only confirmed that actor Shane West has been cast as villain Bane in the final season, but also that the last episode of the series, which will be episode 10 will be taking place 10 years in the future.
Fans know that this is just enough time for the arrival of one major character ….. possibly The Dark Knight, himself!
The network also revealed a new trailer for “Gotham’s” final season and both Stephens and Sean Pertwee, who plays Alfred Pennyworth, teased some of the Bane’s forthcoming plot points.
“He has a nice showdown with Alfred,” Stephens said, shooting a gaze to Pertwee.
“We have an altercation, and Cat’s involved, and we give very good account of ourselves,” Pertwee said, “but I get my back broken.”
The story will follow the same storyline as the Batman comic book “Knightfall” during which The Dark Knight has his spine shattered by Bane, except they are taking a bit of different spin by having Alfred be the one who ends up hurt.
The producers claimed they had been desperately trying to get Bane into the storyline in “Gotham” but were always denied the rights to use the character. With a laugh, Stephen said, “Finally, we found that if you beg and you plead enough, and then they find out that your show is not going on anymore, they’ll give it to you”.
“Gotham” returns on FOX for its final half-season on March 15, 2019.
