HBO has just begun leaking out some details regarding the upcoming Game Of Thrones spin-off of the original series. We have learned that a pilot has been commissioned by HBO and is set to begin filming at the start of 2019.
Leading the cast will be Naomi Watts and Josh Whitehouse, who will be replacing cast members Emilia Clarke, Lena Headey, Peter Dinklage and Kit Harrington, who have all said that they do not wish to be a part of the upcoming spin-off’s and plan to leave their time in Westeros behind for good.
When speaking with BBC News, Kit Harington said, “It was emotional to leave the job definitely. But I wouldn’t say I was sad: if like me you go all the way back to the pilot of Game of Thrones that’s almost 10 years of your life – that’s really unusual in an actor’s career. It was a huge emotional upheaval leaving that family. But would I want to go back and do more? Not on your life.”
Rumors have it that “Game Of Thrones” writer George R. R. Martin is working on a super secret project titled “The Long Night” alongside screenwriter Jane Goldman which plans to take fans of the “Game Of Thrones” series into the origins of both Essos and Westeros traveling several thousand years back in time to the Age of Heroes and the emergence of the White Walkers.
Also, when speaking with NY Times, George R. R. Martin also revealed that he would like the spin-offs to be almost sitcom style saying, “I wanted to do a show called Spear Carriers, which would actually be set during the events of Game of Thrones, but it wouldn’t be following Dany, Tyrion and Jaime. They would all be there in the background like Hamlet, and it would be more like, ‘Here’s a story about a guy in the City Watch; here’s a story about a prostitute at one of Littlefinger’s brothels; here’s a story about a mummer who’s in town to do juggling and tricks.’ And they all get caught up in the events. I think that kind of show would be a lot of fun to do. Maybe I’ll be able to convince them to do it!”
Perhaps we will get some clues in the upcoming final six episodes of the “Game Of Thrones” series which will be released on HBO in April of 2019.
