‘Newark’ The Sopranos Prequel Film Gets A Release Date

Guess what Soprano’s fans?  You better get to binge-watching all six seasons of David Chase’s amazing HBO series “The Sopranos” because the rumored prequel film is coming soon! The film titled “Newark” is slated to be released on September 25, 2020! In our opinion, it can’t get here soon enough!

HBO also went a step further to confirm that the upcoming film will be released in theaters rather than on the network, at least to start out. We are certain it will, of course, end up on HBO eventually … how could it not?

HBO also made the decision to shorten the movie title from “The Many Saints of Newark” to just “Newark”. Set in the sixties, the story will follow Dickie Moltisanti, regularly mentioned in The Soprano as one of Tony’s mentors and a highly respected mafioso during his time. Alessandro Nivola (American Bluff) was picked for the lead role under the direction of Alan Taylor (Game of Thrones, Mad Men).

David Chase completed the casting with Jon “The Punisher” Bernthal, Vera Farmiga (Bates Motel), Ray Liotta (Goodfellas), Corey Stoll (House of Cards), Billy Magnussen (Maniac) and John Magaro (The Umbrella Academy). As for young Tony Soprano, he will be played by Michael Gandolfini, who is no other than James’ son. What a wonderful opportunity for him to honor his father’s memory this fall by taking us back to the golden age of where it all began!
