First Downton Abbey Trailer Arrives

Downton Abby

Downton Abbey is returning! Get ready, because The Crawley family are gearing up to make their big screen comeback in the company of none other than the company of the King and Queen. Fans can hardly contain their excitement for the upcoming Downton Abbey film from Focus Features and Carnival, which is set for release on September 20, 2019.

The trailer shows the Crawley family preparing to receive an unexpected visit from the royal couple, George V and Queen Mary. They’re all panicking in quite a reserved, English way, trying not to show their excitement. The corridors are bustling and the house staff can’t keep up.

It’s 1927, and all of the characters are gradually adapting to a rapidly changing society. The Dowager Countess of Grantham, played by Maggie Smith, seems to have maintained her impertinent sense of humor. The actress will be reunited with almost all of her playmates in the film, including Michelle Dockery, Jim Carter, Hugh Bonneville, Laura Carmichael, Penelope Wilton, and Elizabeth McGovern. Julian Fellowes, showrunner of Downton Abbey, has written and produced the movie, and Michael Engler will be back as director.
