At long last, we have finally gotten our first look at the highly anticipated film “The Irishman” directed by Martin Scorsese which will be hitting select theaters and Netflix this fall! The first showing of the film is set to take place at the New York Film Festival, whose director Kent Jones is a frequent collaborator of Martin Scorsese.
From what we hear the special effects used to create this film took an incredible amount of time, as they were used to change the aging of actors Robert DeNiro, Al Pacino, and Joe Pesci. Since the story will not be told chronologically (and will, therefore, move back and forth in time), the viewer will be able to see the actors’ faces, sometimes young and sometimes old.
The film is adapted from Delaware author Charles Brandt’s book I Heard You Paint Houses and focuses on the eventful life of hitman Frank Sheeran, aka The Irishman. The film is an epic saga of organized crime in post-war America told through the eyes of World War II veteran Frank Sheeran, a hustler, and hitman who worked alongside some of the most notorious figures of the 20th century. Spanning decades, the film chronicles one of the greatest unsolved mysteries in American history, the disappearance of legendary union boss Jimmy Hoffa, and offers a monumental journey through the hidden corridors of organized crime: its inner workings, rivalries, and connections to mainstream politics.
Along with the teaser trailer, Netflix has also revealed two first look images as well.
