Upcoming ‘Lord Of The Rings’ Series Has Already Been Renewed For Season Two

Amazon is certainly sparing no budget for highly anticipated “Lord Of The Rings” series, as they have already reportedly spent a billion dollars on the project. While the first season is currently filming in New Zealand, it has just been revealed that the upcoming series has already been renewed for a season two!

Amazon has plans to take the series over five seasons, with a possible spin-off and purchased the adaptation rights from the Tolkien Estate. Jennifer Salke, president of Amazon Studios, also said that season 2 writers were already meeting to write their first scripts.

After the first two episodes of the series are completed by J. A. Bayona (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Penny Dreadful), Season 1 of the Lord of the Rings will enter a hiatus of several months. The objective of this break is to give the showrunners, J. D. Payne and Patrick McKay time to refine the rest of the adventure and ensure perfect consistency between the various events that will disturb the Middle-earth.

While there is still little known about the casting for the series, notable names linked are Will Poulter (Black Mirror: Bandersnatch), Markella Kavenagh (The Cry) and Joseph Mawle (Benjen Stark in Game of Thrones). The first season of the Lord of the Rings will focus on epic moments from the Second Age of Middle-earth, including the fall of Númenor, the foundation of Rivendell and the creation of the formidable power rings.
